If you are reading this, then you are thinking about engaging Norm Krohn/Krohn Construction to for your remodel. Norm just finished building our kitchen. He also remodeled my husband's office. There a few things you should know about Norman. Obviously, entering into a relationship with a contractor is like entering into any kind of relationship, so hopefully, this letter of recommendation can give you a bit more insight into working with Norm. Bottom line, is we think he is great to work with and if we had another project to do, he would be the first one we called. We learned our lesson too. We worked with someone else, before Norman, and we learned the hard way, but it made us appreciate working with Norm that much more.

Price of Craftmanship - Norman wants the job done right, and he wants the job done with quality. After our kitchen was built, another friend who is in the business asked us who our GC was. He had done other jobs before, and was impressed with the quality with which our kitchen was built. Norm is on the scene pretty much every day. When he has his subcontractors come in, he makes sure that they put in the right amount of time and effort, and that they are paying attention. Norm knows the business from the inside out, so he can see if something is not done right, or if it needs more attention, and he gets the other sub's to give their best quality work. There is no BS with Norm. So that's the quality part

Experience - that's critical. I don't know how many kitchens Norman has built, but I know that he's very very good at making recommendations, figuring out the best way things should get done, and again, really figuring out solutions. A lot of things come up when you are building, and often there is some improvazation that happens, or some changes from the original plan. Norm's insight into finding the best solution is invaluable.

Follow through - Norm is amazing here too. With another contractor we used before we smartened up, 80% of the job took 3 months, and the last 20% took another 3 months. That guy just couldn't get the job done. Norm is not like that at all. Norm's attention to detail is fabulous, and he was with us until the job was done, and done correctly, he didn't disappear. He is easy to get a hold of, easy to communicate with, honest and fair. Our job was done pretty much on schedule (making allowances for the additional scope that we added)

We'd be happy to talk to you more about Norman, or show you the work that he has done.

When Steel Card leased office space in the Balboa building, we hired Norm Krohn/Krohn Construction to do the work. The area was pretty dated, and had been used as a radio station, and a law office, and had the internal architecture to prove it. Dropped ceilings hid the 12 foot originals, the carpet was tired, walls needed to be moved, and the whole space updated to reflect the times. At first glance, it seemed like a pretty straight forward project, but one of the most challenging aspects was the demo.

The demo work on the 6th floor had to be done during non-business hours, and had to be brought down via the elevator. Because the office is right on State Street, there was no place to put the dumpster as well. Still Norm worked around these conditions, got crews to work off-hours and dealt with the situation professionally.

I've worked with Norm on several projects because he is the kind of person who enjoys figuring out a solution, and is willing to take a creative approach to figure out what needs to happen to get the job done right. He works hard, and approaches each project on a personal level - as if he were doing his own office/house. He expects high quality work and a full day's work from his sub contractors, and doesn't settle for second best from them. Further, he has experience across the board in the contracting areas, so he knows how to really get the most out of his subcontractors, and knows if they are doing well, or b.s-ing him. I've worked with Norm on several projects, he comes in on time and budget (depending on changes to scope) and he's the first one I would call if I had a project to do.

Krohn Construction gets the job done. I have used Krohn construction for over seven years both at my residence and at our corporate headquarters. Norm Krohn has also shown himself to be friendly, honest, on time, and on budget and the work is superior.

Norm has helped remodel two of our houses. He is not only a tremendous contractor but also a great friend. His attention to detail and concern about the quality of the end product is outstanding. He is also able to work at a very brisk pace. Unlike many contractors who schedule one sub at a time, Norm figures out how to have two or more subs working at a time and that really speeds up the process. We would often have 5 or 6 different trucks surrounding the house.

What is really a testament to his work is that everyone that we have recommended Norm to has thanked us over and over for the recommendation and has had a wonderful experience working with him.

Norman is the type of builder that thinks beyond the immediate situation. He plans ahead in construction so no time is wasted, there are no mistakes and he works extremely fast and efficiently. When he sees a problem on the building plans he corrects them before the fact, thus saving the clients time and money. He is honest and hardworking and a delightful person to work with. We have recommended him to many people in Santa Barbara and they all have passed along his name to their friends as well.

I highly recommend Norman Krohn Construction to anyone wishing to build a home, add an addition or remodel an existing space. His attention to detail is unsurpassed and his creative ideas exciting as well as accommodating to the client's needs. He demonstrates superior skill in carpentry and engineering. He seems to suit the needs of a Santa Barbara homeowner with his appreciation and knowledge of the old homes in the city although he certainly can handle modern design as well.

I personally experienced Norm's expertise when I hired him to be general contractor for the remodel of my newly acquired 1949 built Samarkand home in 2004. While we did not change the footprint, he was able to add a bathroom, create a new kitchen and change the position of the dining room where we installed French doors opening to the patio. We special milled siding to match the outside walls. One now enjoys a view of the backyard immediately from the front entrance. Needless to say this all took a bit longer than expected as I continued to change my mind and make additional changes. As an interior designer, that made two of us focusing on the details...Norm never lost patience and the results were GREAT!!
